L'Italia non merita una nuova crisi

by Marco Fortis Il Mulino - 2019

This book, the eighth in Foundation Edison’s series on global, European and Italian economic dynamics after the 2008-2009 crisis, contains a series of articles by Marco Fortis published in “Il Foglio” and “Il Sole 24 Ore” from July, 2017 to November, 2018. This time the analysis focuses on Italy and it unfolds around the strident contradictions between the great strengths of a reactive and dynamic economy which was successfully emerging from the crisis, and the equally great factors of economic and financial instability to which the new policies deriving from the 2018 elections are now exposing the country. The first part of the book analyses the factors of solidity of our economy, starting with the strong manufacturing and export sectors, and the progressive recovery of the Italian system of production from 2014 to 2017. The second part concentrates on the brusque economic turnaround that the so-called policies of “change” are causing. The possible impacts of these measures are extremely uncertain and are causing great concern in terms of risks to growth and public finances.
